Consider it a spring cleaning exercise in which you clear the clutter, arrange your workstation, and throw away anything that is distracting. Not only can decluttering your desk increase your productivity, it will also act as a strong psychological crutch to keep your work life simple. When it comes to both your organizing abilities and your mind, clutter often breeds clutter. You will therefore be less distracted and more focused after eliminating the clutter. Take a close, honest look at the various technology you use to carry out your task as your first step. Now, simply ask yourself: Does this make my job life simpler or more challenging? Does it take less time or more time? For instance, is your new PDA truly making your life easier or is it just making things more complicated than they need to be? Examples of these methods include getting up from their desks and meeting people face-to-face, using day timers, Rolodexes and index cards, keeping to-do lists on notepads, using the phone, etc. The issue with technology is that it can be used for tasks that can be done more effectively and effectively the old-fashioned manner.
